Our Chemical Microtubule Biology laboratory is part of the Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur. We are available at lab no. 301 at second floor of chemistry building. Our lab is working at the interface of chemistry and biology which involve peptide synthesis, small molecule synthesis against Alzheimer's disease and Cancer. Our interest also include Chemical Biology (Microtubule Function, ROS & Stem Cells) and designing Biophysical Platform for understanding biological events.
Background:
Surajit was born on December 1977 in Hooghly, West Bengal, India. After completing his Master of Science in Organic Chemistry in 2000, he moved to Syngene International Pvt. Ltd (Biocon Group) and worked as a Scientist till July 2004. Subsequently, he moved to Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur in August 2004 for his doctoral studies in the group of Prof. Sandeep Verma in the area of Peptide Self-assembly. After completing his Ph. D. thesis in July 2008, he joined as postdoctoral fellow at European Molecular Biology Laboratory, Heidelberg, Germany with Dr. Thomas Surrey, where he worked on organization of microtubule and molecular motor proteins till December 2010. He joined CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Biology Kolkata, in 2011, and worked as Principal Scientist (E-II) till 8th July 2019. Subsequently, he has joined as Professor in the Department of Bioscience and Bioengineering at Indian Institute of Technology Jodhpur on 9th July 2019. He is a recipient of BASF and DBT Wellcome Trust Travel grant award, BIOCON Tribute award, EMBL Fellowship, Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship, Ramanujan Fellowship and Indian Peptide Society Young Scientist Award. He is an elected Fellow of Royal Society of Chemistry and West Bengal Academy of Science and Technology. At IIT Jodhpur he is leading Chemical Microtubule Biology Laboratory and his group is currently focusing in the area of Chemical Neuroscience and Chemical Biology.
